The Horticultural Bandit

Ok, so no plants have actually, nor will they be, stolen. I plan on asking my renter neighbors for permission to harvest part of the overgrown jungle, specifically the hen-and-chicks. I think they'd go perfectly nestled among the rocks next to our patio. And that is only one little project for my yard.

I'm excited to really get into my newly developed obsession. I will use this to chronicle my journey, make notes of what works, what doesn't, and hopefully end the summer with a bounty of delicious, home-grown food.

I have lots of flowers: iris, random bulbs that were here before me, started seed marigold, alyssum, and zinnia. Just this week I planted viola and a couple hostas beneath the big pine tree on the corner of our lot. And once our fence is fixed and painted, I will plant wild flowers.

As far as my veggie garden, I just planted lettuce and broccoli. I will be getting tomatoes, asparagus, cucumbers, dill (for home-canned pickles!), and cantaloupe (which will probably be the only thing my husband will eat from the garden.) My blueberry bushes that we planted last year are starting to ever-so-slightly come out of hibernation. I'm hoping they will bear lots of fruit, especially with the help of my pet bees. Yeah, that's right: Mason bees. (Don't worry, they don't sting.)
